Evans has been in the Human Services field for 20 years now, working with our most vulnerable community members; from drop-in centres, homeless shelters, health centres and youth homes. He decided three years ago to move back to his home community and use the skills and practices he learned over the years to help those in his home community on their healing journey.

“I am currently the Healing Support Program Supervisor at the Siksika Support Centre. Everyday we help nation members navigate the justice system, connect them to mental health and addictions supports, help them reconnect to our culture and help build the life each and every one of them deserve. Although the work is hard and often times can seem hopeless because of lack of resources on-reserve, we take honour in our Siksika Values by promising to leave this place better than it was for our future generations. We plant seeds of trees we will not benefit from the shade of.
I am honoured to be doing this work for my people. Because of colonialism and the racism we experience in systems that are suppose help us, I have created a team of individuals who make sure everyone who walks through our doors is met with love and respect. That they know they are seen and feel they have a place they belong.
Thank you for seeing that work. Nitsiktsinitsiip (I am grateful).”
